The key to meditation is learning to recognize the mind’s natural ability to simply observe what is taking place in the moment, free from further thinking, analyzing, judging, or reacting. After we know how to calm the mind through attention on the breath, the emphasis shifts to simply witnessing whatever occurs moment by moment. Like a clear mirror, this witnessing awareness reflects whatever is placed before it – sense perceptions, thoughts, stories, emotions and physical sensations. When awareness stands alone, its nature is revealed; peaceful, clear, open, spacious, silent, and still. This discovery brings us to the threshold of a life-changing inner freedom.
