Self-Compassionate Awake Awareness: Healing the Parts of Us That Suffer

The human psyche is not so much a solid thing as it is a collection of sub-personalities or parts that interact with each other and play different roles in helping us to cope with life. During our early childhood conditioning, different “parts” develop through adversity, trauma, and suffering that continue to operate and drive our behavior into adulthood and for the remainder of our lives. Some parts are protectors, some are managers, some are wounded children, but all of them arise out of and continue our suffering by shoring up our identification with the habitual, small, solid separate ‘me’.

Even though we may have frequent meditative experiences of waking up out of the trance of the small self into the freedom of our True Self, boundless Awake Awareness, we can also experience the conditioning of our small self pulling us repeatedly back into old patterns of suffering.

One of the most powerfully moving and healing aspects of Awakening is the experience of Awake Awareness felt from the heart. In the depths of our heart is a boundless resource of love, compassion, caring, warmth, and interconnectedness. Simply resting in this ocean of loving kindness and compassion is in itself healing. And when we direct this Awake Compassion to the parts of ourselves that suffer, we can release long held emotions and blocked energies that have made us feel uncomfortable all of our life.

In this experiential course we will learn to use Open Hearted Awake Awareness to embrace, welcome, dialogue with and support our inner suffering parts. When our parts are not blamed or made wrong, when they can receive the love they need but never got, these parts begin to loosen their grip and let go. They begin to unburden themselves of their contracted, pent up, painful emotional energies. This brings about deep and lasting healing. Gradually our suffering parts begin to reintegrate into our True Self, Awake Awareness, a wholeness that is always at peace, grounded, safe, clear, and balanced.

Note: This is not a traditional mindfulness course on self-compassion from the small self to the small self. The basis for this course is our True Self, Awake Awareness, which is boundless, formless, timeless, and beyond the small self. This course assumes that you have some experience of Awake Awareness, even if you are not able to stay there for long periods.

For those who are unable to attend our onsite class, ClearLight offers an Internet only option. Under this option, the weekly audio recordings from each class are made available each week via our website. Requires computer and internet access.
