The flowering of loving kindness in the human heart is the key to lasting happiness. As simplistic as this sounds, when we soften our defenses and allow ourselves to feel our natural open-heartedness, we discover tremendous richness behind this instruction – and begin to unleash a transformative and healing power in our life. It’s possible to live and respond from a place of openness, kindness and love in the face of the normal chaos of daily life. But it requires some new learning and a lot of practice. The key to success begins with self-compassion and kindness towards ourselves.
In this course we will explore and expand upon traditional contemplative practices for cultivating the heart of loving kindness beginning with ourselves and then extending towards others. Not based on any dogma or belief, these contemplations nourish the spirit and bring a sense of greater connection in our lives.
This course is for meditators with a committed regular mindfulness practice of at least one year or more – and is ideally suited for those who have completed at least 2 of our Foundation Level courses.
Classes will include sessions of mindfulness meditation, guided loving kindness contemplations, teachings and discussion. Readings will be assigned from the modern classic, Loving Kindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness by Sharon Salzberg. Students are responsible for obtaining their own copies of this book.
